rarrow.jpg ON SALE NOW

“As an accredited agency, we are required to provide an annual compliance report. As such, we are always looking for new innovations that will help with maintaining our accreditation. The accreditation process does not result in an end point; instead, accreditation is a journey.”

– Ernst Piercy, CFO, Fire Chief, Air Force Academy Fire and Emergency Services (CO)

Whether your agency is seeking accredited status through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International or you’re simply seeking a guide for self-improvement, you’ll find the 7th Edition of the Fire and Emergency Service Self-Assessment Manual (FESSAM) a resource you’ll refer to again and again.

This newly expanded manual results from a three-year review and development process centered on the 10 categories that guide modern fire and emergency service agencies:

  • Governance and Administration
  • Assessment and Planning
  • Goals and Objectives
  • Financial Resources
  • Programs
  • Physical Resources
  • Human Resources
  • Training and Competency
  • Essential Resources
  • External Systems Relationships

Many agencies seeking ways to move from tactical deployment to strategic response will use the expanded FESSAM to guide them confi dently through the process. A number of content enhancements, references, and other tools are guaranteed to make this edition a valuable, hard-working reference.

STANDARDS OF RESPONSE COVERAGE
Coming Fall/Winter 2006

The new edition of the “Standards of Response Coverage” is targeted to coincide with the release of the 7th Edition of the Fire and Emergency Service Self-Assessment Manual (FESSAM).

“Development of a Standard of Response Coverage has been invaluable in helping us to defi ne and evaluate our level of service. This tool is enabling us to demonstrate clearly to the community what they can expect as well as raising awareness within the department.”

– Lynn Heesen, Battalion Chief, Kent Fire Department (WA)

The existing Standard of Response Coverage documents have been updated with sections and information on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Asset Management, the Insurance Standard Organization (ISO), together with the concept of Integrating Risk Management Planning into the overall response plans for the community. The original material for the Standards of Response Coverage drew from the experience of firefighters in the U.K. This new document brings with it the additional developments that have taken place and been tested in extreme situations. While the former SOC process looked at effi ciency and effectiveness, the new manual adds the dimension of “safety” – both to the first responder as well as the public.

If you are asked by your governing officials what levels of service should they expect in emergency situations and find that you cannot answer the question, this manual is designed to assist you.
