Sedgwick County Fire Chief Gary Curmode Receives the Ray Picard Award from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) Dallas -- Sedgwick County Fire District #1 Fire Chief, Gary E. Curmode received the 2006 Ray Picard Award at the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) 7th annual awards reception in Dallas, TX yesterday. Chief Curmode is the eighth individual to receive this prestigious award recognizing superior leadership and outstanding contribution to the CFAI program and the accreditation process. The Ray Picard award was aptly named after its first recipient and one of the founding fathers of fire and emergency service accreditation, Chief Ray Picard. Recipients are selected annually from a pool of nominations, and announced each year at the CFAI's annual awards reception. Chief Curmode received the Ray Picard aware for his tireless contributions and commitment to Fire Service Accreditation. Chief Curmode has served on over 9 accreditation visits and conducted over 100 Chief Fire Officer peer reviews of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) candidates. Additionally, Chief Curmode serves as Commissioner for all career departments, both nationally and internationally. Since 2001, Chief Curmode has been a Chief Fire Officer and has assisted various departments attain the elite recognition of becoming CFAI accredited department. The CFAI grants accreditation to fire and emergency service agencies upon the successful completion of an in-depth self assessment and on-site evaluation. Sedgwick County Fire District (SCFD) # 1 is one of two CFAI accredited departments in the State of Kansas. SCFD # 1 became a CFAI accredited department in 2003; the other CFAI accredited department is the Fire Department in Lenexa, Kansas.
